Founder

The Steve Dhillon Team is Union City’s #1 team for a number of homes sold (1996-2024) and ranked #5 for most homes sold in the entire Alameda County in 2024. Dedicated to delivering top-quality service is their primary commitment to clients. Extensive market knowledge, professionalism, and aggressive marketing efforts prove exceptional results.

For over forty five years, Steve has been fully committed to providing a higher standard of personal service and care to his clients that consistently places him at the top of his field. Born in Stepney, East London and raised in South East London, England, he sold real estate there for over fourteen years and owned and operated three real estate offices in New Cross, Brockley & Penge.

He had the distinction of being an auctioneering partner with Hindwoods, Clark & Esplin (an old established (1887) icon in SE London Real Estate). In 1990, he moved to the Bay Area to continue in his real estate profession. It is his goal to provide a rewarding experience for home sellers and buyers in helping them settle into the wonderful lifestyle the Bay Area has to offer.

While always looking ahead, we remain faithful to the ideals of integrity, courtesy, market knowledge, and the professionalism of our agents. Buying or selling your home is a major life experience. Your partnership with the Steve Dhillon Team will make the process as engaging and satisfying as the result. Our success is driven by our results and you will always get my honest point of view, regardless of the commercial consequences to the business.

Our goal is to always be supportive and transparent.

Steve has resided in the San Francisco Bay Area for the last thirty-two years. He lives in Mission San Jose, Fremont with his lovely wife, Pam, and their Maltese, Fifi. He has three children and two grandchildren. His home is his sanctuary, located along a creek with soothing views of nature. He loves it and also enjoys international traveling, golf, gardening, and is an avid ‘Arsenal’ fan.

“I am particularly glad that my children have joined the company and happily so; I am pleased because every father is happy when their child follows on their footsteps. The family is a strong value, as it conveys love for the future” – Brunello Cucinelli

My grandchildren: Celine & Benicio.

History:

A photo of my great grandfather taken in Australia. Circa. 1850. His exact location was unknown but is believed to have worked on a sugar plantation in New South Wales (which at the time also consisted of Queensland and Victoria). We are a multi-generational family of farmers, my father was a farmer and so was my grandfather and great grandfather.

My father arrived in the UK in the early 1950's. It was part of the first Sikh migration, mostly men from the Punjab seeking work in the British industry, which had a shortage of unskilled labor. Most of the new arrivals worked in industries like foundries and textiles.

In the early 1960’s my father would take me along to his rental homes on Woolwich Road in Charlton, South East London.  I thoroughly enjoyed it, while my mother cleaned the houses and my father collected rents I would enjoy an abundance of candy from the tenants.

My father worked very hard, and he inspired people to work just as hard  by the way he treated others. He enjoyed reading and writing and was well versed in many languages including English, Urdu, Farsi, Hindi and Punjabi. He inspired me in my business by the comments other people made about the way he handled his business. Almost everyone I met said the same thing about my father. They would say, "Your father is a good man and has more integrity than anyone I know"

I've always looked up to my father's entrepreneurial spirit and am forever grateful for the morals he instilled in me at a young age, which led me to open my first Estate Agents office.

I have always had an interest in property, I think it was inevitable given my family. In the mid 1970’s I joined Robert J Lang at Wellington St in Woolwich, London an 1887-established firm of Chartered Surveyors as an office clerk and then as a trainee negotiator. I will never forget my manager Dave Clarke for giving me this amazing opportunity. I later worked for Londinium at Green Lane in Romford, Essex, founded by the flamboyant James Khan. I would often ask him why he called his agency Londinium which was the old Roman name for London. His reply "Maybe I can build another empire".

I was later recruited by Jackson Property Services, a fast growing Estate Agency that was rapidly expanding in South East London and based in Bexley, Kent. I worked at the Plumstead Common Road branch in Plumstead.

In 1980 I was appointed a manager of a start-up firm Mortimer & Hutchinson, based in Peckham Rye, London. Founded by a Richmond based investor Patrick Hutchinson and a local Chartered Surveyor Richard Mortimer.

In 1982 I started my own company Dillon & Co and later teamed up with Richard Mortimer a Chartered Surveyor and formed Dillon Mortimer. We operated three offices in Brockley, New Cross & Penge and held joint property auctions with Hindwoods. I was also involved with a close friend of mine Raj Panhkania in the buying and selling of properties and we operated under Stavehart Properties dealing mainly in Greenwich, Blackheath, Charlton and the surrounding areas. Raj is chairman of the property investment company Jaspar Group, and won a BEM (British Empire Medal) for services to older people and to the community in Stanmore, North London. He is also founder of the Jaspar Foundation; the non-profit arm of the business set up in 2009.

In late 1989 I moved to California, USA.

In 1992 I joined Mason McDuffie at Mission Blvd in Fremont. Incidentally, Joseph J. Mason the founder of what was to become Mason-Mcfuffie Co., was born in London in 1844. They were later acquired by Prudential.

Due to a management shift in 1999, I moved to The Property Professionals at Kimber Park in Fremont. I was very thankful for the tremendous support I received from brokers Marcia Kovac and Sam Nawar.

This company sold in 2004 and instead of joining a large corporate firm, I moved to a very well established and independently owned company the Realty Experts based in Fremont where I have enjoyed tremendous success with the guidance of Bill Hartkopf.

I am involved in several real estate development companies in the Bay Area and property management companies out of state. I want to express my gratitude to my wife for her unwavering love, guidance and support in getting me to where I am today.

"It is time to start living your own life without worrying about the expectations of others and always remember the words of the Dalai Lama: the purpose of life is to be happy." - Steve Dhillon
